VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on August 2 morning confirmed an additional four positive coronavirus cases in Vietnam, including two related to central Da Nang city and two returning from Russia, taking the total tally of COVID-19 infections in Vietnam to 590.
The two imported patients numbered 587 and 588 landed at Van Don Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh from Russia on July 17 on VN5062 flight (previously there were 21 positive cases on this flight). They were isolated immediately after entry in Hoa Binh and sampled twice negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
However, the 3rd test result on August 1 of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology was positive for the virus. Currently both patients are in kept in quarantine to receive treatment at Hoa Binh General Hospital.
Patient 589 is a 42- year old man living in HCM City who traveled to Da Nang city. He had sample taken for testing by the HCM City Center for Disease Control and his result came back positive for SARS-CoV-2. The patient is being isolated for treatment at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in HCM City.
Patient 590 is a 40 year-old man living in the central province of Quang Ngai who had close contact with patient 517 at Da Nang Hospital. The patient's test result was reported positive for SARS-CoV-2 by the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute on August 1. He is currently placed in isolation to undergo treatment at health facility No 2 in Quang Ngai.
By August 2 morning, Vietnam has recorded a total of 590 COVID-19 cases, with the number of new cases relating to the outbreak in Da Nang since July 25 rising to 144, and 373 having fully recovered from the virus.
According to the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, as many as 200 active patients are being treated at medical establishments nationwide, including 14 having tested negative for the virus once or at least twice.
Since the reoccurrence of the novel coronavirus in the community on July 25, Da Nang has recorded 104 cases, becoming a coronavirus hotspot in the nation. The central Quang Nam province has detected 26 cases, HCM City eight, Hanoi two, central Quang Ngai province two and northern Thai Binh and Central Highlands' Dak Lak provinces one each, with all cases being linked back to Da Nang.
The country has reported three COVID-19-related deaths so far.
